• PCATI monitors the implementation of the 1999 High Court of Justice ruling (HCJ case #5100/94, the Public Committee against Torture in Israel vs. the Government of Israel and the General Security Service) by visiting detainees in detention facilities and collecting testimonies and sworn affidavits from them.
  • PCATI documents cases of torture, ill treatment and degradation of detainees and prisoners.
  • PCATI petitions the High Court of Justice on behalf of detainees against the use of illegal methods of interrogation, substandard conditions of detention, prevention of meetings between detainees and their attorneys and other violations of their basic rights.
  • PCATI submits principle petitions, for example the 2002 petition against the assassination policy of the State of Israel, the petition on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and the petition to annul the law that severely violates the rights of security suspects under detention.
  • PCATI submits complaints on torture and CIDT to the authorities both on behalf of individuals and in the framework of detailed complaints on a specific issue, for example painful handcuffing and the exploitation of family members as a form of psychological pressure during interrogation.
