The complainant, a resident of El-Azariya, was arrested in the beginning of November 2007 on suspicion of throwing explosives. The Israeli army soldiers who arrested him stripped him of all his clothes and beat him on the way to the Maaleh Adumim police station. The beatings continued even after he was brought to the police station and, afterwards, the detainee was beaten and severely ill treated by two of the station’s officers, who among other things, inserted objects into his body. The police officers, in addition, took the detainee into the toilet and there one of the officers urinated on him. As a result of the Ill treatment he endured, the complainant suffered injuries and pain in many parts of his body.

The complainant was released shortly thereafter without charges.

Following a complaint filed on behalf of the complainant by attorney Samah Elkhatib-Ayoub of the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel, the Police Investigations Department opened an enquiry into the event and this week, in a rare move, two officers were arrested on suspicion of ill treatment.
