The High Court of Justice criticizes a GSS Interrogation method
The High Court of Justice today, 7 March 2007, ordered the General Security Service (GSS) to inform a security prisoner, Mahmoud Abed Elaziz Switi, that his wife is not, and never was, detained, and to have him undergo a psychiatric examination whose results will be given by the end of the week to the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI).

In a letter from the office of Israel's Attorney General PCATI was informed that lying about the arrest of family members in order to create pressure on an interrogee is inappropriate action. That is in response to the work of PCATI's legal department the State capitulated and indicated its (measured) agreement to cease and desist from what can only be described as the intentional infliction of severe mental pain on a detainee for the purpose of the interrogation: torture.

On 30 October 2007, Attorney Rachela Er’el of the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI) submitted a letter to Attorney General, Meni Mazuz, demanding a further clarification of his reply to an earlier complaint on the employment of psychological pressure through the exploitation of family members of detainees and interrogees. The letter includes details regarding three severe cases in which family members were used as a form of pressure in interrogation.
