The Public Committee Against Torture in Israel Petitions the High Court of Justice: Order the Attorney General to Investigate Allegations of Torture in GSS Interrogations.

A new report by PCATI exposes an intolerable reality. Israeli authorities systematically prevent investigations of complaints of torture against General Security Service (GSS) interrogators. 

On 6 July 2009, the High Court of Justice rejected the contempt of court motion filed by PCATI, HaMoked and ACRI on the violation of the HCJ judgement on torture of September 1999.

On January 20, 2009, eight human rights NGOs – the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, Bimkom, B'Tselem, Gisha, Hamoked Center for Defense of the Individual, the Public Committee Against Torture in Isael, Yesh Din, and Physicians for Human Rights, sent a letter to the Attorney General demanding the establishment of an independent mechanism to investigate the killing and injuring of civilians during the fighting in Gaza, in cases in which there is a strong suspicion that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) committed serious breaches of the humanitarian law.

On 21 November 2007, PCATI attorney Samah Elkhatib-Ayoub submitted a complaint to the Attorney General on behalf of Ima’ad Hotri, a detainee who stated that he was tortured at the Kison Detention Center.

In the response of the Attorney General’s office to the amicus brief filed to the High Court of Justice on 29 May 2007 by Adalah and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) regarding the revocation of the residency in Israel of members of the Palestinian Legislative Council from East Jerusalem. (High Court of Justice case 7803/06), senior attorneys from the State Attorney’s Office attacked the human rights organization.
